Documented indoor pool and architectural lighting installations in blue and pink lighting scenes
16 / LIGHTING & CONTROLS

The architecture of light.

Lighting schemes designed around what each fitting is for, and wired so they can be run as scenes.

THE APPROACH

Lighting begins at first fix.

Good lighting is decided at first fix. Once finishes are in place, changing cable runs or recessed channels can become disruptive. So we work out early what each part of a room or garden should look like after dark, choose fittings for that job, and plan the cabling, drivers and control channels to suit.

WHAT THE WORK INVOLVES

Fittings, drivers and control.

Across our lighting projects we combine LED strip with Collingwood downlights and wall lights, and bring them under Control4. Where the design calls for colour, we use RGB-W fittings and DMX control so colour and white can be set independently and recalled as scenes. Tunable-white (CCT) fittings let the colour temperature be adjusted.

Behind that is the hardware most people never see: LED drivers and power supplies sized for the load, dimming and control modules, recessed aluminium profiles that act as heat sinks as well as diffusers, and cable routes that keep low-voltage control wiring apart from mains.

EXAMPLE PROJECTS

Different settings, the same method.

  • A Control4-controlled colour-changing lighting scheme for a therapy pool.
  • A complete garden lighting scheme, designed, specified, installed and programmed by us (see the garden lighting case study).
  • Lighting-control boards for multi-channel LED installations (see the lighting-control build).
