A pleated blackout blind half-raised inside the glass of a bedroom door

Invisible detail. Controlled light.

Motorised blackout blinds sealed inside the glass of an automatic door, so the bedroom goes dark and the blind is never in harm's way.

THE BRIEF

A bedroom that can go properly dark.

These blinds are on an automatic door that opens from a bedroom. In a bedroom, being able to make the room dark is a prerequisite.

THE CONSTRAINTS

Blinds and automatic doors don't mix.

A blind fixed to an automatic door has a hard life. If the door opens on a windy day, the blind can get thrown about and wrecked. It can be trapped as the door closes, and if it starts to rain it gets wet.

Putting the blind inside the sealed glazing unit solves all of that, but it means the blind has to be specified with the glazing. It can't be added afterwards, and access for maintenance is limited, so the system has to be chosen for long-term reliability.

WHAT WE DID

Pellini ScreenLine, inside the glass.

We specified Pellini ScreenLine pleated blackout blinds, motorised and sealed between the panes of the glazing. They're operated electrically, with nothing on the room side of the glass to catch, clean or damage.

THE RESULT

One decision, two problems solved.

The door can open in any weather without risking the blind, and the bedroom still goes dark at the press of a button. When the blind is up, the window looks like plain glass.
